LA CROSSE, Wisconsin(WXOW) – La Crosse's Hunger Task Force received a generous donation Wednesday.
The task force serves food to area pantries and other organizations in need.
Altra Federal Credit Union presented the task force with a check for more than $9,000, which was raised during the credit union's "drive away hunger campaign."
Altra donated $10 to the Hunger Task Force every time an auto loan was financed in September or October.
Customers were also given a rate discount if they agreed to match the donation themselves.
"It was an awesome idea for them to make a community impact," said the Hunger Task Force's Shelly Krause. "It made sense for them to call on the Hunger Task Force. We're serving so many different meal sites and food pantries that this is a perfect partnership."
"It's very important that we give back to the community," said Jack Peplinski, Altra's President and CEO. "The community supports us in that they come to us for their financial needs, so we have to give something back to them."
"We feel an agency like the Hunger Task Force is a great way of doing that," he said.
