Central boys on state radar

La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  The preseason attention was focused on the Onalaska and Aquinas boys basketball teams and with good reason.

Onalaska is the defending division two state champ and Aquinas is a favorite to win the division 3 title this year.

But don't sleep on the Central Red Raiders.

They're off to a 5-0 start this season.

This week they crept into the latest division 2 state coaches poll, checking in at number 10.

Even with their higher profile MVC rivals, the Red Raiders think they can be a player in the conference this year too.

"What's helped us this year is we have a veteran team. We have a number of guys back. They've taken the success we had last year and they've built off that. We're off to a good start and we're hoping to continue the streak we have going so far," said head coach Todd Fergot.

"We need to keep doing what we do best. We're a team that's scrappy and we get after it all the time. If we just tighten it up we'll be good,"  said senior Aron Klos.

Central will host Chippewa Falls Thursday night.
