LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)-- The Iverson Freking Ecumenical Recognition Award recognizes individuals who serve the community through ecumenical projects.
The award has been handed out by Bethany Saint Joseph Corporation since 1987.
This year's recipients are Rev. Kent Johnson, council woman Audrey Kader and Sr. Kathy Stuttgen. The winners were selected from about 30 nominees by a committee of community members.
Rev. Johnson was recognized, in part, for his work with the local warming center and area churches.
"It's an affirmation of the work of so many in our community that are helping to build bridges between denominations, between peoples, to lift up the assets, the gifts of our community," Johnson said. "And, to make a difference through servant leadership. And so when one receives an award like the Iverson Freking Award, it affirms that this is a value."
Kader was recognized for her work on the arts board, school boards and within the city council.
"It couldn't have come at a better time," Kader said. "Believing in the cause, seeing the needs, and one thing leads to another. My involvement in city council is because in order to get the Pump House we had to sit so many hours at city hall to get the then city council to realize the arts were important."
Sister Stuttgen was honored for her with the elderly.
"Working with the elderly has been a real privilege for me and so I'm humbled to receive this award today. I have a passion for the elderly," Stuttgen said. "I have a mother who's 96 years old who's starting to fail in her mental capacity. So it's always been near and dear to my heart."
A lunch will be held for the winners January 23 at 11:30 am at the Radisson. You can call 608-788-5700 for a reservation.
