The Wisconsin State Patrol, asked to handle the investigation of the crash, released information on the crash on Thursday.
At around 9:50 p.m., Officer Tyler Pond was headed through the intersection of Rose and Monitor Streets in La Crosse when the unmarked SUV he was driving was hit by a northbound vehicle that didn't stop at a red light. That vehicle was driven by 63-year-old Mark Wienkes of Sparta.
