La Crosse Police officer injured in crash

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A La Crosse Police officer suffered neck injuries when the vehicle he was driving was hit by another vehicle that ran a red light Wednesday night.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, asked to handle the investigation of the crash, released information on the crash on Thursday.

At around 9:50 p.m., Officer Tyler Pond was headed through the intersection of Rose and Monitor Streets in La Crosse when the unmarked SUV he was driving was hit by a northbound vehicle that didn't stop at a red light.  That vehicle was driven by 63-year-old Mark Wienkes of Sparta.

Officer Pond was treated and later released with a neck injury suffered when the Wienkes' vehicle hit Pond's.

Wienkes was ticketed by the State Patrol for failing to stop at the red light.
