LA CRESCENT, Minnesota (WXOW) - Middle school students learned the power of giving during their winter food drive this month.
After being challenged to collect 720 food items for charity, La Crescent-Hokah Middle School has surpassed their goal three-fold.
The students raised around 2,500 food items and will distribute the items to La Crescent and Hokah food pantries in the coming weeks.
Administrators started the drive to promote holiday giving, and raise awareness for people in need.
"It's really because some families can't afford things for their kids and… maybe they have a lot of expenses they have to pay. So, we're just really trying to help them out with their families to get them through things when they need it," said Paige McKinnon, who's in the sixth grade.
There were some incentives for students to donate.
For their hard work and contributions, come of the top donors will receive a pizza party courtesy of the school principal.
