LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Gundersen Lutheran's seventh annual blanket drive is in full swing.
The drive runs through January 13.
The hospital, as well as all of its regional clinics and other locations, is collecting blankets of all sizes, both in new and lightly used condition, which will then be donated to area shelters and organizations that need them.
Among those receiving the donated blankets are the Salvation Army and the La Crosse Warming Center.
"Whether you work in the ER, the clinic or the hospital, the first thing we nurses are always grabbing are blankets to wrap our patients in," said RN Kathy Koehne. "So this just seemed like a natural collection that we could do – to wrap our community in warmth by collecting blankets and donating them to other area agencies."
Donations for the blanket drive can be dropped off at all Gundersen Lutheran locations, as well as both MOKA Coffeehouse locations in La Crosse.
The hospital is hoping to amass 1,000 blankets by January 13.
