Last minute gift ideas under $5

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—Its hard to believe Christmas is a week away and many of us still have shopping to do.

It can be even more difficult to get that list done when you're on a budget.

News 19 found five gifts, under $5 at five local stores downtown.

Lets start off at Stamp N Hand on S. 4th Street.

They have a whole area set up with gifts under five dollars. One item in that section is an activity book for kids. There are a few books to choose from like a velvet coloring book and markers that color with water.

"It is simple, little self contained activities that kids can use in the car, when they go out to a restaurant," Margie Wanek, Owner, Stamp N Hand said.

Another idea, is a comic book from River City Hobbies, on Main Street.

The average comic book is $2.99.

A lot of TV shows and movies now a days are based off comic books, so they're not just for cartoon lovers.

"Anything to do with Avengers, as in the movie, has always been a popular title anyway," John Vach, Owner, River City Hobbies said.  "For people who have never been in a comic store, this is where they get all of the stuff for the movies that have been coming."

Down the street, Cheddarheads, on Pearl Street, put together a $5 stocking full of Wisconsin items like Cow Pies, cookies and a deck of Wisconsin cards.

Everything a Wisconsinite would love.

"No Vikings fans allowed," Dani Peterslie, Assistant Manager, Cheddarheads said.

Also on Pearl Street, All Glazed Up has $5 pendants that you can paint, or buy one they painted already.

"You just hang them on a chain like the one I'm wearing an wala you have a really cute necklace," Stephanie Sharp, Owner, All Glazed Up said. "We actually make these out of clay with stamps and glazed them and fired them."

One thing to keep in mind if you'd like to paint your own pendant, you might not get it back in time for Christmas because the store has to fire the clay to make sure it lasts for a long time.

Last stop, Three Rivers Outdoors, on the corner of 4th and Main Streets.  Perfect for backpackers, campers and coffee lovers is a bag of coffee that brews in the bag.

"Basically what it is , is a coffee maker in a bag. You need 1/2 liter of hot water and you just pour it in and it makes 3 cups of coffee," Daniel Sanscrainte, Manager, Three Rivers Outdoors said.
