Middle school students caroling to raise money for Sandy Hook Elementary

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—A group of middle school students from La Crosse sang Christmas carols at Festival Foods on Wednesday night.

The girls raised $246.20 for Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Mackenzie Hicks, Longfellow eighth grader, came up with the idea when she was watching coverage of the shooting on the news with her mom.

She wanted to do something to help the victims families and knew her passion for singing could help raise money.

"I just really feel bad for these families because its really expensive to pay for the funeral," Hicks said. "I just want to let them know that there are people that care for them."

The girls are done singing, but they're still collecting donations to send to the elementary school.

If you would like to donate you can email them at churchmouse1070@gmail.com.
