LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)—The holidays are a time with a lot of rich foods, that we don't have very often so it can be easy to over indulge.
When you are grocery shopping for your holiday meal, the La Crosse County Health Department suggests looking for lean cuts of ham and eating white turkey meat instead of dark. Light turkey meat has fewer calories and grams of fat.
"Be cautious of breads and rolls too," Jennifer Logging, Nutrition Supervisor, La Crosse County Health Department said. "Crescent rolls are real high in fat so choosing lefse over a crescent roll would be a better choice; even whole wheat buns and be cautious of spreading lot of butter on them of course."
Logging said everything is fine in moderation so its ok to eat some of your favorite dessert.
But, she said be careful with drinking because it lowers your inhibitions making it easier to over eat.
