La Crosse, WI (WXOW)
La Crosse's City Clerk on Friday announced that she has certified enough signatures to order a recall election for Council Member Audrey Kader.
Clerk Teri Lehrke announced a certificate of sufficiency.
Kader had challenged all but 66 of the 250 signatures submitted by a Conservative group called the Restore La Crosse Committee.
She claimed the address the signers listed did not meet the standards as a residence.
That address was a building at Viterbo University that serves as a common mailing address for the students.
At first Lehrke agreed, throwing out all but 104 of the signatures to invalidate the recall..
But following an appeal by the Restore La Crosse Committee, determined that 169 of the signatures were valid. That's 11 more than the 158 needed to order the recall.
The Restore La Crosse Committee released a statement in response that reads;"the main reason for the recall is Kader's leading the City Council to eliminate the longstanding Committee of the Whole; robbing the citizens of their only opportunity to address their City Council as a whole."
The recall effort continued even though the effort to eliminate that committee failed...
A date for that recall has not yet been set.
