Airport sees unexpected traffic after snow storms

FRENCH ISLAND, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Christmas weekend is considered one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

The La Crosse Municipal Airport is usually an exception to that rule.

Airport Manager Clinton Torp said many of the airport's passengers travel for business, and during Christmas, most people are off work.

But this week's snow storms led to delays and flight cancellations, making the airport uncharacteristically busy.

Flights out of La Crosse this weekend are completely full.

"Generally, we're not as busy as the major hubs this time of year. A lot of the people this time of year stay locally or drive to closer destinations. But, the flights that we do have going in or out are full," Torp said.

Traffic in the airport should start to die down by Sunday, Torp added. But, the number of travelers will increase again after Christmas.
