Manager: Christmas weekend mall shoppers more ‘chaotic’ than Black Friday’s

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Management at the Valley View Mall said the Christmas weekend crowds are even bigger than those on Black Friday.

Treasures, a store in the mall, benefited from last minute shoppers.

Elizabeth Wilson, Treasures manager, said the extra rush, the conversation and the extra cash in the register makes business fun this time of year.

"I just like handling money. I may not get to spend the money, but at least I get to hold it," Wilson joked.

The last minute crowd at the Valley View Mall is not an after thought for staff.

Mall General Manager Jeff Odom said Black Friday is child's play compared to the weekend before Christmas crowd.

"Saturday was just a tremendous day; a lot of traffic and very hectic and chaotic," Odom said. "But we made it through it and we're looking forward to a busy day today."

Wilson said Sunday's shoppers were a little tamer than Saturday's. She suggests it was the mid-day Packer game that slowed down the shopping rush.

"It was really busy (this weekend)," Wilson said. "Today, it's not so much because of the Packer game, but yesterday we were packed almost the whole day."

If you're still in need of a Christmas gift, the Valley View Mall will be open Monday, Christmas Eve, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The mall will be closed Christmas day.
