PRESTON, Minnesota (KTTC) -- A Canton man has been charged with 12 felonies in Friday's shooting, chase and armed standoff that began in Preston and ended near Winona.
Roger Bergmann, 39, of Canton has been jailed since surrendering to Winona and Houston County deputies.
Bergmann is accused of shooting a 49-year-old woman in the neck inside a home about 12:15 p.m. Friday.
Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen says Bergmann fled the scene but was spotted later by a Rushford police officer and chased into Winona County near Highway 43 and County Road 12 southwest of Winona.
After county deputies and state troopers swarmed to the scene, Bergmann stopped his truck and eventually got out, unarmed, with his hands up.
He was handcuffed and taken back to the Fillmore County Jail.
Sheriff Jensen says the woman underwent surgery for her gunshot wound at Saint Marys Hospital, and County Attorney Brett Corson says it is his understanding that she is recovering.
Corson says the charges against Bergmann include two counts of Kidnapping, First Degree Assault, two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Attempted Murder in the Third Degree, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, and making terroristic threats. Other charges involve controlled substances violations, fleeing a police officer, and a firearms violation.
Bergmann is being held in Preston on 500-thousand dollars conditional bail or one million dollars unconditional bail.
