Report: Man shot by deputies had beat up grandmother in domestic disturbance

DOVER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A Winona County man is being charged in a disturbance where he was shot and wounded by an Olmsted County sheriff's deputy on Christmas eve.

Joshua Patrick Pagel, 27, is facing a charge of felony domestic assault after he allegedly assaulted his grandmother in St. Charles, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found Pagel hiding under a camper in Dover. He allegedly charged at Olmsted County Sgt. Mike Morrow and Deputy Hiram Jobes. Sgt. Morrow fired a nonlethal round from a shotgun and struck Pagel, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. Pagel continued to charge and Sgt. Morrow discharged a second round, striking Pagel.

Pagel was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester where he is in serious but stable condition.

Sgt. Morrow and Deputy Jobes have been placed on administrative leave which is standard for this kind of incident.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance after the 27-year-old man had allegedly beat up his grandmother in St. Charles, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found the man hiding under a camper in Dover. He allegedly charged at officers, and a deputy fired a nonlethal round from a shotgun.

The suspect was injured and airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Two Olmsted County deputies are on administrative leave, which is standard for this kind of incident.
