LACROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Last week, a 6-year-old girl in our community decided to take a stand against hunger. Mya Thompson gave up eating both breakfast and dinner for a whole week. All the food she would've eaten, she set aside and donated to WAFER food pantry. In just one week, she collected more than 50 pounds of food.
Mya's mother, Tara Thompson says, "She's always been a really considerate; compassionate young person and so it wasn't out of character for her to come up with something like this but just to have the determination to pull it off and come up with the idea is just phenomenal and we're very proud of her."
"There's other people in the world that don't have any food," says Mya.
Mya's school has been so inspired, they've asked her to keep a journal and share her experience.
