Holcombe man wakes from coma in time for first child's birth

CHETEK, Wisconsin (WQOW) - A bad accident leaves one family feeling very thankful this holiday season.

On the morning of December 20th, 22-year old Dennis Wood was driving to work when he struck three horses in the road.

One horse was killed on impact, and the other two were euthanized because of the extent of their injuries. Wood was left hospitalized with severe injuries. He was in a coma when they brought him to the Mayo Health Clinic in Eau Claire.

He's now awake. And get this, his wife gave birth to their second child early Wednesday (12/26) morning.

Dennis G. Wood, Sr., Dennis' Father says, "Denny was aware that the baby was born, he gave a thumbs up right away, and one of his first signs, he insisted was, 'take me there,' he wanted to go."

Wood is expected to recover.
