COPY-Authorities ID snowmobiler killed after breaking through ice

Sawyer County (Press Release) - On Monday, December 24, 2012, at 5:06 a.m. the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office Dispatch received a call stating that Steven Sisko had gone snowmobiling on the Chippewa Flowage and had not returned home. 

Sawyer County Deputies were dispatched to the scene and a search was organized.  Shortly after 11 a.m. Lifelink helicopter reported seeing what looked like a hole in the ice and someone lying in it. 

Members of the City of Hayward Fire Department responded by airboat to the scene and located Steven Sisko deceased in the water. 

Agencies assisting in the search were Sawyer County Search & Rescue, Lifelink Helicopter, Round Lake Ambulance, Round Lake Fire Department, City of Hayward Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office.


Sawyer County (WQOW) - A search for a missing northern Wisconsin snowmobiler ends on a sad note.

Searchers in Sawyer County were looking for the man who went out on his snowmobile late Sunday afternoon to check on his trap line.  

On Monday morning his body was found in the Chippewa Flowage. The DNR says his snowmobile broke through thin ice.

The man's name has not been released.
