1. Brief Biography:
I've been married for 36 years, and have 2 grown children. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
I've been a medical technologist for the past 34 years. I have worked as a laboratory manager and consultant. I have also supervised staff, managed million dollar budgets, and have been responsible for maintaining policies and procedures that met strict government standards.
I've lived in La Crosse for 10 years. I'm a former chairman of the Washburn Neighborhood Association, and a former member of the Neighborhood Revitalization Commission. I also served on the Rental Inspection Committee. I've worked with the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse to establish the Washburn Garden Park. I also taught at Globe University in the Medical Assistant Program for over a year.
2. Explanation of why I want to be Mayor:
I want to be mayor because I know I can make a difference in the City. I‘ve been involved with City issues as the Chairman of the Washburn Neighborhood Association for the past 4 years. I have fresh ideas that I know can be used to solve some of our city's problems. They are spelled out in my Five-Point Plan. I have the experience and the enthusiasm that is needed right now.
3. The top 3 issues facing the City of La Crosse:
Bring the police department and the fire department to full staffing .
Neighborhood Walk-a-bouts with the police chief and the fire chief to identify fire hazards and safety issues.
Work with the police department to increase participation in neighborhood watch programs.
Speak with local judges and D.A.s about stiffer sentencing and crime reduction.
Work to improve pedestrian lighting throughout the City's neighborhoods.
Economic Development Goals:
Work with local business leaders to improve the business climate in La Crosse.
Replace the position of grant writer.
Strive to attract new business to La Crosse.
To create a more accessible and transparent budget.
To have a monthly Mayor's Forum to inform and involve residents.
Post a complete budget on the City's website that is specific and easy to read.
To create a monthly blog for citizen input.
