I am 55 years old and have been a life long resident of the La Crosse area. I graduated from La Crescent HS in 1975 and WWTC in 1982.
I spent 4 and 1/3 years in the Navy where I met my wife of 34 years (Suki) and together we have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. I spent
21 years with Kwik Trip and 3 1/2 with Wal-Mart before opening my own business, the Sports Nut, 12 years ago.
I am currently on the City Council and have no political ties. Some of the boards & committees I have been part of are: Chairman of Finance & Personnel, Budget Parameters Committee, Vacancy Review Board, Member of the Airport Board, CDBG, Executive Committee and the Room Tax Commission.
There are five major areas of concern for the city of La Crosse.
#1 - Safety for all of our citizens. We need to bring our police and fire departments back to full strength.
#2 - Housing Values are at a critical level. We need to start giving incentives to our citizens to help improve their home values rather than just giving them to large corporations.
#3 - Economic Development. We need to continue to work with companies to bring good paying jobs to the city. TIF's are not always popular but they have become important in bringing business to our great community. To get the Mobil Oil site, Trane plant 6 and Barren Island developed we will need to work with companies to come up with the best possible solution.
#4 - Property Taxes. We need to continue finding ways to help working towards lower property taxes. My plan would be continue looking for efficiencies in City Hall and then we need to start working with local governments to find better and more efficient ways to operate.
#5 - We need to find a way for the Mayor, Council and Department heads to work together that will benefit the majority of the citizens.
We have a great city and so much to offer, and that is why you still see companies that are willing to move to La Crosse. We need to continue down this path to bring more good paying jobs to the city. I feel that I am the most experienced candidate for the job of Mayor of La Crosse and I will work for the citizens and bring solutions to City Hall.
