PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Authorities identify a McGregor, Iowa woman killed in a two car crash on the Mississippi River Bridge between Iowa and Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says 73-year-old Lorraine Siegenthaler died when she collided with another car on the Highway 18 bridge around 4:30 p.m.
According to witnesses, Siegenthaler's car crossed the center line and crashed into a second vehicle carrying four people.
The driver of the second car, Roberta Lear, 43, of Prairie du Chien, was taken by helicopter to Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse. Three other people in the minivan suffered minor injuries.
The crash closed the bridge for nearly four hours which forced drivers to take long detours to either Dubuque or Lansing to cross the Mississippi River.
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN,Wisconsin (WXOW) - A fatal crash on Highway 18 on the Mississippi River bridge between Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Marquette, Iowa has killed a woman, injured two other people and closed the highway for several hours.
Authorities say the head-on crash happened on the Wisconsin side of the river around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says the driver of one of the vehicles died, while two people in the other vehicle were brought to a La Crosse hospital. The identities of the victims were not released.
The highway was closed in both directions for about 3 1/2 hours. It was reopened around 8:15 p.m.
The Iowa State Patrol said the crash forced drivers to take a lengthy detour to one of the nearest river crossings - which are at Lansing and Dubuque.
