Holmen, WISCONSIN (WXOW) One of the premier high school gymnastics meets takes center stage Saturday at Holmen.
The Vikings will host the 42nd annual McLellan Invitational.
Thirteen teams will compete in two divisions in two separate meets.
Holmen figures to be the favorite to win the top division.
They took 4th at state last year in division 2.
Many of those athletes are back this year.
It's only early January and already they're hitting their stride.
"I love where my team is this year. They're full of surprises. They're putting up bigger scores than they were last year at this time, which is amazing considering the scoring system has changed this year. It makes getting a bigger score a lot harder. So they're ahead of where they were last year," said Holmen head coach Karen Kuhlmann.
"We've been progressing. Each meet we've gotten a high score. We've really been showing our skills and getting new ones. I'm really proud of them," said senior Emma Madsen who won the all-around competition at the last MVC Meet.
The morning session featuring some of the less experienced teams will start at 9:30.
The top-scoring teams will square off starting at 2 o'clock at Holmen High School.
