MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW-System overspent $15.4 million on health insurance premiums and $17.5 million on employee retirement funds, according to an audit report from the Legislative Audit Bureau.
From May 2011 through September 2012, the report identified $8 million of the $15.4 million in overpayments were for health insurance premiums paid for 924 terminated employees. The UW-System has been able to recover only $228,000 of the overpayments. According to the report, provisions in the contracts between the State and health insurance providers limit the UW System's ability to recover the full amount.
The report also showed the UW-System overpaid the Wisconsin Retirement System $17.5 million for the calendar year of 2011. The Department of Employee Trust Funds has credited the system for that full amount.
