ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - On Wednesday, Onalaska celebrated crossing guard appreciation week.
Police chief Jeff Trotnic met with all crossing guards throughout the city to show his appreciation. Trotnic says by drivers showing appreciation for crossing guards, they will help keep kids and pedestrians safe while crossing the streets.
"The main way they can show appreciation is just pay attention to them. Make sure they're obeying the crossing guards when they're out on the streets and make sure they're stopping. Believe it or not, we don't have the drivers that do that for the crossing guards."
Trotnic also says being a crossing guard is not always an easy job so it's important to show your appreciation.
