WASHINGTON, D.C. (WXOW) - One day before his private inauguration and two days before he'll be sworn in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, the President called for a National Day of Service in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
Monday is also Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The First Family all pitched in, volunteering at a Washington, D.C. school Saturday where the President pulled on a pair of rubber gloves and helped stain a bookshelf.
He says the day of service should remind us all of Dr. King's legacy.
"I'm always reminded that he said, 'Everybody wants to be first; everybody wants to be a drum major, but if you're going to be a drum major, be a drum major for service. Be a drum major for justice," he said.
