Sen. Schultz says he can't support GOP mining bill, endorses Sen. Cullen's bill

MADISON (WKOW) -- Once again, Senator Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center) says he cannot support an Assembly GOP mining bill.

Sen. Schultz says the new one introduced last week is worse than the Assembly bill he helped kill in the Senate last march, because it rolls back more environmental regulations.

Sen. Schultz appeared with Sen. Tim Cullen (D-Janesville) on Tuesday to introduce a separate mining bill.

Sen. Cullen says its based on the recommendations he heard in the mining committee he chaired last fall.

"Some people will say that this is a Democratic bill, or whatever.  I'm proud to say its a bipartisan bill and in fact I would go further and say its a non-partisan bill.  This is a bill that reflects what we learned," said Sen. Cullen.

A public hearing on the Assembly Republicans mining bill is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Capitol.  Hundreds of people are expected to testify.
