Norovirus spreading in the U.S.

Undated (WXOW) - Health experts say they've found a new strain of the Norovirus in Australia and it is now spreading in the United States.

The virus causes inflammation of the stomach and intestines which results in the usual stomach virus symptoms.

"This is one of the most contagious viruses we deal with," said ABC Chief Medical Editor Richard Besser.  If you're living with someone who has it or you're in contact, hand washing is key.  Only soap and water is the way to get ride of it, alcohol gels do not work."

Dr. Besser says every year 21-million people get infected with the Norovirus and eight-hundred people die.
