Teen Dies After Falling Through Ice in Vernon County

TOWN OF CLINTON, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- A 17-year old Amish boy has died after falling into a pond near his family's farm in Vernon County.

The boy is believed to have been cutting blocks of ice on the pond, which is fed by a nearby spring.

In a release Saturday, the Vernon County Sheriff said the boy's father called 9-1-1 at 12:02 p.m. reporting his son may have fallen through the ice.

First responders arrived and pronounced the teenager dead at the scene upon finding him.

It's believed he was in the water for approximately two hours.

The Vernon County Sheriff and the county coroner are investigating the incident.
