SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Monroe County authorities release the names of the victims of Friday's crash between Sparta and Tomah.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Department says that 49-year-old Lois M. McCollam of Tomah and 8-month old Robert McCollam-Dye died from injuries suffered in the collision between their vehicle and another along Highway 16 near Hazel Avenue Friday morning.

Lois McCollam, who was wearing her seatbelt and in the front passenger seat, according to authorities, died at the scene of the crash.  Robert McCollam-Dye, riding in a car seat in the back seat of the Dodge Stratus he was in, was taken initially to Tomah Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse, where he later died.

Two others in the vehicle, driver Terry McCollam and passenger Luke McCollam, 20, were also taken to hospitals for their injuries.  They were treated and released.

The crash occurred when McCollam tried to pass another vehicle.  Authorities stated Friday that when McCollam saw oncoming traffic, he tried to move back into his lane, but lost control of his vehicle, and collided with the second vehicle.

32-year-old Brittany Taylor of Warrens, the only person in her Dodge van, had to be extracted from the vehicle.  She was flown by Med Link Air to Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse.  On Monday she was listed in good condition.

The crash closed Highway 16 between Sparta and Tomah for three hours.

Both the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and Wisconsin State Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash.
