Rep. Kleefisch introduces "Crossbow Bill" proposal

Posted:

MADISON, Wisconsin (WKOW) -  A Waukesha County lawmaker wants hunters to be able to use crossbows near schools and hospitals.  Under current law, hunting is prohibited within 1,700 feet of a school or hospital.  But a new bill authored by Representative Joel Kleefisch (R) of Oconomowoc would only prohibit hunting with firearms in those areas.

Kleefisch says, "We have a constitutional amendment in this state, which says we have a right to hunt and fish. And I think any way we can facilitate that right in this state is a good thing."

The bill would allow local governments to restrict crossbows and bow and arrow hunting to a distance up to 300 feet from a school, but no more. However, Kleefisch says he is open to changes.
