LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)—Great Rivers United Way announced they have not only met, but exceeded their 2012-2013 campaign goal.
The community and five anonymous donors, who provided a $50,000 matching grant, helped the GRUW raise $2,051,010.44; their goal was $2,050,000.
Mark Glendenning and his wife, Dr. Margie Webster, led fundraising efforts as Campaign Co-Chairs in 2012-2013.
They said the GRUW is important because there is a lot of need in the area and it's not going down.
"First and foremost it's about the agencies and the programs and the people they help. That's really what keeps us going," Glendenning said.
Donations received from the 2012-2013 campaign will help fund area programs that serve thousands of people in the five county region. Last year, GRUW provided funding to 68 programs within 28 partner agencies.
Glendenning would like to see more activity with the agencies served in the outer regions.
"People get served all over our five county region," Glendenning said. "We need to make sure we're constantly working the five county regions."
Dr. Webster said 7,000 individuals and 331 companies contributed to the 2012-2013 campaign.
"I think I would like to have people realize how much, when all the money comes together, what a difference it makes, the number of donors that contributed to raise the over $2-million," Dr. Webster said.
John and Linda Lyche will lead next year's campaign as the new Campaign Co-Chairs.
