LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- A local actress is taking getting in to character to another level.

Colleen Gran is set to star in the play Pirates of Chemotherapy at the community theater in La Crescent.

In the play Gran's character, Karen, is battling breast cancer and to connect with her character Gran cut her hair and donated it to charity. She actually took it a step further than just chopping off enough for the charity Locks of Love, she shaved her head completely.

"She's described as having low self esteem and being introverted and that's kind of really the opposite of me," Gran said. "So I feel like losing a little bit of something, like Karen lost, is just going to help me be Karen for those three days that we're running."

The play is February 8 and 9 at 7:30 and February 10th at 2 PM. The show is not recommended for children under 14.
