LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A defensive battle saw the Blugolds lead once in the 4th quarter, a lead that the Red Raiders pillaged in the final 30 seconds and held on to for the win.
Central opened the second half building on a two point advantage with a corner three from Trevor Schultz. Nolan Ritter answered quickly with a three to keep it a two-point game.
Aquinas kept it close throughout the low-scoring second half. Bronson Koenig and Michael Conway led the way with 13 and 11 points respectively. Aron Klos had 10 for Central helping them maintain the slim advantage.
After Conway gave Aquinas a 38-37 lead, Mitchell Johnson dropped two points to flip it to a 39-38 Red Raiders lead. Johnson missed a free throw with three seconds to play, but Conway's half-court heave fell short, and Central came away with the upset.
The Red Raiders improve to 8-2 with the win, just a half-game behind the now 9-2 Blugolds.
