Guenthers prepares for Valentine's Day

ONALASKA, WI (WXOW)—Flowers by Guenthers is just one florist busy preparing for Valentine's Day.

Joe Sexton, owner, said they've been preparing for since Christmas, finding materials and ordering flowers all over the world.

Most popular, of course, are red roses; they've sold thousands of them already and are asking customers to pick a second rose color just in case they sell out of red.

If you're looking for something different from the traditional rose, Sexton suggests a mixed flower bouquet.

He said by this time of year people ready for spring and want to see colors like yellow, pink and purple.

Guenthers is partnering with local businesses to offer flowers and a gift like a session at the spa, homemade chocolates and a singing Valentine.

"So they hand them a rose," Sexton said. "Hand them a nice card, sing them a couple songs, and then hit the road again. It's going to be a blast. The ukulele players are the best of the Cheeze Land Uke Band and they all play, they all sing, and they harmonize."

It's not too late to order.

"As soon as they know what they want and where they want it to go they should call but there will be people running in grabbing last minute items all evening," Sexton said. "We're not going to lock the doors until people stop walking in."

But, he said last year they pretty much sold everything they had in the store so the best selection is available sooner than later.
