LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- La Crosse mayoral candidate Tim Kabat rolled out a plan he says will strengthen neighborhoods in the city .
Kabat says there are three areas on which he will focus. They are: improving safety in certain La Crosse neighborhoods, creating incentives for home improvements and repairs, by reconsidering fees related to those improvements, and additional new home construction to grow the tax base.
"We need to build more new housing in our neighborhoods which is why we're standing here today in front of a house under construction," Kabat said. "I do feel that having new housing is a way to revitalize and it also has a ripple effect because neighbors and the housing around the new housing tend to have an upgrade as well ."
One part of the city Kabat says he'd like to see a new housing development is the Exxon Mobil site.
