LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—Turning 50-years-old is a mile stone and for some a time to celebrate.
Tammi Collins was surrounded by family and friends, at Pastimes Tavern, to help her celebrate the Big 5-0. Except one person was missing. Her son Jaymes Collins. She hasn't seen him since he left for boot camp five years ago.
I've been busy, deployment, been everywhere," Jaymes said.
Tammi had no idea her son drove back to Wisconsin from where he's stationed, with the Marines, in Alabama.
"She doesn't even see me," Jaymes said.
He stood just feet away, as she talked to her other guests.
Finally, as Jaymes made his way through the crowd she spotted the best birthday present she received.
"My heart is still racing," Tammi said. "I can't believe he's real!"
Jaymes just has the weekend off to spend with his family, then he has to head back to Huntsville, Ala.
