LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The La Crosse Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron is part of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.
Saturday the program honored two of its highest achievers.
Cadet Capt. John Brennan received the Amelia Earhart Award.
Only 15 percent of Civil Air Patrol cadets nationwide receive that honor.
Cadet Lt. Col. Michael Ebert received the Ira C. Eaker Award, which marks the formal end to the cadet program.
Less than two percent of CAP cadets earn that award. This is the first time in years that a La Crosse cadet earned it.
Ebert, who plans to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy this fall, said the cadet program taught him how to be a leader.
"Following the footsteps of my father and my grandfather becoming a pilot, working toward becoming a pilot, working toward becoming an officer, gives me confidence and leadership, and the confidence I can teach people what they need to know to take over my job in the future and do, hopefully, better at it than I have," Ebert said.
