LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) La Crosse City staff members received some direction about the marsh during a Board of Public Works meeting.
It was a closed meeting, but Public Works director Dale Hexom confirmed to WXOW the focus is ongoing talks with the DNR about the transfer of some city owned marsh land. Hexom says there is no deadline for the transfer.
During an interview in January, DNR land program manager Craig Thompson told us the transfer issue stalled for a variety of reasons. But he said the city is ready to move ahead.
Thompson said "what it takes is some effort on the front end for the city to identify the parcels they want to transfer to the DNR."
Thompson said that state ownership will ensure the highest level of protection for the marsh. After the transfer, Thompson told us he would be willing to join conversations about transportation planning within the corridor.
