MADISON, Wisconsin (WKOW) - Opening statements will be heard today (02/26) in the trial of a Madison father accused of torturing and starving his daughter. Ten women and six men will hear the trial of Chad Chritton, who's charged with child abuse and neglect, among other counts.
Authorities say Chritton and his wife, Melinda Drabek-Chritton, allegedly kept his teenage daughter locked in the basement and withheld food from her. The girl weighed just 68 pounds when she was found walking along a road near the family's home in February of 2012.
Many witnesses are expected to testify during the trial, including Mike Vega, the man who discovered the girl.
The girl's step-brother, Joshua Drabek will also take the stand. He is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting her. Drabek's trial begins in June. Melinda Drabek-Chritton faces trial in April.
