Onalaska, Aquinas and Luther all advance to Sectional Finals

Eau Claire, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  The defending division 2 state champs are ready to relinquish their title just yet.

The Onalaska Hilltoppers took down Rice Lake 47-39 in a sectional semifinal match-up at Zorn Arena in Eau Claire Thursday night.

Matt Thomas led the way for the Hilltoppers with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

It was a rematch of a sectional semifinal from last year also won by Onalaska.

The Hilltoppers entered the game ranked number one in the state in division 2. 

Rice Lake was 5th.

Onalaska will play Hortonville Saturday in Marshfield at 5pm with the winner going to the state tournament.

In division 3, Aquinas led from start to finish in beating G-E-T 63-47 in Osseo.

Bronson Koenig had 29 points to lead the Blugolds and Michael Conway had 10..

Aquinas was able to withstand a shooting barrage from G-E-T senior Tim Wagner who had 33 points.

The Blugolds will play Barron Saturday afternoon at 2pm in River Falls in the Sectional Final.

Onalaska Luther advanced to the sectional finals for the second year in a row thanks to a 55-46 win over Fall Creek at Central high school.

Christian Kennedy had 4 three-pointers in the 2nd quarter alone to lead the Knights.

Luther will play Cuba City Saturday in Baraboo at 1pm with the winner going to the state tournament.
