Onalaska Girls Hockey headed to championship

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Onalaska Girls Hockey team avenge last year's title game loss with a 5-4 victory over the D.C. Everest Co-op in semi-final action Friday afternoon at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

The Hilltoppers ended the first period with a 3-2, and despite exchanging goals with the Storm, maintained a lead throughout the game.  Five different players scored for Onalaska.

Molly Coughlin got things started for the Hilltoppers with a goal to tie the game at 1-1 at the 7:31 mark.  A little more than two minutes later, following the Storm's second goal, Chazlyn Anderson responded with a goal of her own to bring it to a 2-2 tie.  Theresa Knutson rounded out the first period with a goal to make it 3-2.

Jacyn Reeves added one in the 2nd period.

It was Jamie Weilandt's score only 36 seconds into the 3rd period that proved to be the game winner and made it 5-3 Onalaska.  D.C. Everest did score again at the 5:42 mark, and despite strong pressure for the rest of the period, could not get the puck past goalie Jeanalyn Schindler for the tying goal.

Onalaska will take on the Hayward/Spooner Co-op, who defeated University School Co-op 6-2 in the second semifinal game Friday afternoon.

The Girls final will air on WXOW starting at noon.  We will also live stream the game on our WIAA tournament page.

We'll have reaction tonight on our 5pm, 6pm and 10pm newscasts.
