Onalaska, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Every year the Zietlow family and Sons of the American Legion hold fund raisers for the purpose of donating to local organizations involving children and special education. For the second year the Onalaska Police Department D.A.R.E. program has been chosen by the Zietlow Educational Fund to receive a $1,000 donation.
"This couldn't have come at a more opportune time," said Onalaska D.A.R.E. Officer Leah Myers. "It's always a challenge generating funds to keep the program in our schools. I'm honored that the Zietlow family chose Onalaska D.A.R.E. to receive this donation. Their generosity is greatly appreciated."
The Zietlow family works with the Sons of the America Legion to honor the memory of Ed Zietlow an Onalaska resident who worked tirelessly in service to his community. The Ed Zietlow Educational Funds have donated to both the Onalaska and Holmen Special Educational programs as well as the YMCA Miracle Field.
The check will be presented to Officer Myers by a representative of the Zietlow family on March 6th at St. Patrick's school during the D.A.R.E. graduation for the 5th Grade students.
