Madison (WQOW) - Lawmakers are hoping to help you avoid unwanted callers. A pair of bills have been introduced in Madison.
The first would ban the use of automatic dialing systems and a pre-recorded messages to make mass phone calls for political reasons. The second bill would add a new regulation to all robocalls. Any company or group would be required to have a live person make the phone call and get permission to play a robocall. Violating both laws would carry a one-hundred dollar fine.
For many years, telemarketing calls have been the top complaint with trade and consumer protection in Wisconsin. Both bills are authored by Democrats and have been assigned to a committee.
