Dunn Co. (Press Release) - Crews have recovered the semi tractor trailer that had been submerged in the Red Cedar River near Menomonie since 4 a.m.
Emergency crews have also recovered one body, believed to be the driver of the semi. At this time, a search has begun for a second passenger, based on information from the company that the unit was traveling with two people. The truck was based out of Lansing, Mich. No names are being released at this time, nor is the name of the company.
The semi was traveling west on I-94 on snow covered roads. Initial indications are that the semi entered the median prior to the river, traveled through the median and went down the embankment into the river.
Dunn Co. (Press Release) - The Wisconsin State Patrol is currently on the scene of incident involving a semi unit submerged in the Red Cedar River near Menomonie.
Around 4 a.m. a call was received indicating a semi traveling west on I-94 had lost control on snow covered roads and went into the river.
In addition to law enforcement, dive teams and tow trucks are on scene attempting to locate the driver. The semi is from Michigan.
Eastbound I-94 is closed at WIS 25 for recovery of the unit passenger. Motorists are being directed through Menomonie and back on to the interstate from WIS 12 and County B.
More information will be provided as it becomes known.
Travel Alert Update: EASTBOUND lanes of I-94 are closed at Hwy 25 near Menomonie right now. The State Patrol says a semi went over a bridge into the Red Cedar River. Dive teams have been called in to look for the driver. It's believed weather may have played a factor. We'll be sure to update you as soon as we know more about this incident.
