Aquinas not passing up assist opportunities

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Good things come to those who wait. Although they didn't have to wait that long, Aquinas is back at the WIAA Boys Basketball State Tournament.

The Blugolds won it all in Division 3 back in 2011 before missing out last year due to some key injuries. Aquinas is eager to return to the Kohl Center and said they match-up well against their semifinal opponent, top-ranked Little Chute.

The Blugolds cited their ability to find the open man as a key advantage.

Senior Nolan Ritter said, "We've been playing together for awhile now. Our chemistry's good on this team. We've obviously got Bronson [Koenig] leading the way. All of us just follow off of him."

"We're averaging 14 assists per game," added head coach Rick Schneider. "That's a lot of assists for a high school basketball team. It's been the entire year that guys have been distributing the basketball."

"It's a lot easier to dish it out for the easiest shot possible, so nobody really cares who gets the points. We just care the ball gets in the hoop. That's all that matters," senior Michael Conway said.

Koenig said, "That's what our identity has been throughout the season. We've just got to carry that over to state."

You can see the D3 state semifinal featuring Aquinas and Little Chute on Friday morning at 9:05 and the D2 semi between Onalaska and Pulaski that afternoon at 1:35. Both games will be televised on WXOW.
