Kids Helping Kids at Gundersen Lutheran

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Children being treated for illnesses at Gundersen Lutheran got a big surprise Wednesday afternoon courtesy of three students from Holmen.

Sacia Gilbertson, of Evergreen Elementary, came up with the idea to collect toys for sick children last year as part of a class project.

Her friends Brynn Daines and Devin Reeves helped with the efforts and, Wednesday, the trio presented boxes upon boxes of toys, as well as four iPads and even a blu ray disc player to Gundersen Lutheran Health System's various pediatric units.

"It was really cool," Gilbertson said.

"The toys don't seem like that much when you're collecting them," said Daines. "Then you see all of them together and it doesn't seem like you actually collected all of that."

"I had seen all the boxes and thought there were a lot of toys," said Reeves. "But then I saw all of them today. We were having a hard time finding places to put everything!"

The girls said they plan to continue their fundraising efforts into the future.
