ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - For the second year, the Onalaska police department's D.A.R.E program has been chosen by the Zietlow Educational Fund to receive a $1,000 donation.
D.A.R.E officer, Leah Myers, received the check Wednesday at the 5th grade D.A.R.E graduation ceremony at St. Patrick's school. Every year the Zietlow family and Sons of the American Legion hold fund raisers to donate to local organizations involving children and special education. Officer Myers says they are honored the Zietlow family chose the Onalaska D.A.R.E program to receive this donation.
"We were absolutely humbled knowing that we live in such an absolutely wonderful community that's willing to give so much to our D.A.R.E and great programs. The D.A.R.E program is essential in helping children learn how to make healthy life choices and help them make good decisions and live a positive healthy lifestyle," says Myers.
Officer Myers also says the money donated will go towards purchasing textbooks, T-Shirts, and incentives for the D.A.R.E students.
