LACROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - La Crosse Mayoral candidate, Doug Farmer, is making neighborhood rehabilitation one of his top campaign issues.
He wants to use three million dollars over two years to improve the property value of local homes and schools. That money, Farmer says, will come from the expiration next year of a tax incremental finance district that encompasses the area including the La Crosse airport and industrial park. Tax money paid after it expires would be available to the city.
"This is the best program the city runs, housing rehab and housing replacement, and I'm happy to advertise it everyday of the week, and if by chance we gain our support and get people to do this and get the money, then it's a win for everybody," says Farmer.
Farmer also says taxes will not go up as a result of these improvements.
