Andersen, Badgers open spring football practice

MADISON (WKOW) -- Gary Andersen held his first organized practice as Wisconsin's new head football coach on Saturday. The Badgers had their first of 15 spring practices before the annual Spring Game on April 20th. The first practice was held indoors inside the McClain Center. The practices had a different feel under Andersen, as music was played continuously throughout the two hour session. Quarterbacks now wear a black jersey at practice, instead of green jerseys that were worn when Bret Bielema was head coach.

"It's a special time without question," Andersen said. "Football is football and kids are kids no matter where you're at, but this is a tremendous opportunity. Like I've said for myself and my family. I wake up everyday with a smile on my face. I'm blessed to be here and I look forward to do whatever I can to put these kids in a position to be successful on and off the field, but it was a good day for me."
