EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (WQOW) - An Altoona area child care worker convicted of sexually assaulting young boys is headed to prison. On Monday (03/11) a judge sentenced Thomas West to spend more than two decades behind bars.
The former employee at the Altoona Family Child Care Center was sentenced to 24 years in prison followed by 15-years of extended supervision. Prosecutors say he sexually assaulted 7 boys. The victims are between three and five years old. Family members spoke in court Monday (03/11). Then West read a letter he wrote to the victims.
"I implore their forgiveness, not for my own benefit of peace, to which I am not entitled to, but from their own. Removing from their hearts the insidious thorn I have born them," said West.
West will also have to register as a sex offender and must undergo treatment. He will not be allowed to have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.
