Teacher to use tools for schools award to help dyslexic students
SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Students at St. John's Lutheran School in Sparta who struggle with dyslexia will have a new tool to help them with reading.
Carol Lunde received $300 as part of the Tools for Schools award from WXOW and SSE Music. Lunde will use the award to implement the Susan Barton method to aid dyslexic students at the school.
"It teaches the students in a very slow manner and it doesn't overwhelm them," says Lunde. "If you check out the Susan Barton theory, she teaches you all the warning signs and things that you can look for and then if you use this method to teach the children they can become successful."
WXOW and SSE Music help one deserving teacher or class each month. To apply, look for the Tools for Schools link on our web site.
